What is MCT Oil?
MCT oil stands for medium-chain triglyceride oil. Medium-chain triglycerides are a type of saturated fat found in coconut oil. Saturated fats are often categorized as medium- or long-chain triglycerides, which refers to the amount of carbons in their chain. MCTs have 6, 8, 10, or 12 carbons in their chain and are identified as caproic acid (C:6), capric acid (C:8), Caprylic acid (C:10), and lauric acid (C:12). MCT oils can contain any or all of the medium-chain triglycerides.
In summary, MCT oil is a concentrated dose of beneficial fatty acids.
What Can MCT Oil do for You?
MCTs can be processed by the liver or directly converted into energy. During this process, ketones are released into the body which can boost energy. MCT oils, therefore, provide quick and sustained energy.
Who Should Take MCT Oil?
If you follow the keto diet, or any other low-carb, high-fat diet, its important that you are consuming enough fat in order to provide your body with the necessary energy for daily life as well as training and competition.
If the intensity of your training doesn’t allow for you to follow the keto diet, but you are still looking for any of the other benefits of MCT oil or if you have a sensitive digestive tract and require a better absorbing fat, MCT oil might be right for you.
How Much and How Often?
We recommend adding 1 tbsp to any beverage or food, such as coffee, shakes, yogurt, and salads. Take as needed in order to meet your daily requirements.
Keep in mind that it is not recommended for use in frying.
